Week #1 Update

I've completed my first week of study, and before I get to the actual numbers, I have a few observations. First, learning characters is so much more than reading the story and associating it with the character. A lot of work is involved inputting the results into Anki, and then you still need to find time to review what you've learned. Secondly, 16 characters a day is a lot. It's daunting trying to find the time to do it knowing how much effort is involved.

So, my numbers for the first week were:

Sunday - 16
Monday - 11
Tuesday - 21
Wednesday - 9
Thursday - 6
Friday - 0
Saturday - 7

This totals up to 70 characters, or approximately 10 per day. I was also not happy with the "0" day. I think I may need to adjust to 10 characters a day in order to stay on track (and extend my goal by a bit). However, before I do that I'd like to try another week at this pace.

Let's see if I can learn 16 now...

Overall progress: 178/1500. Pretty good recall.

The Heisg Saga

I've finally received my copy of "Remembering the Simplified Hanzi". I started late in the year with the first 100 characters using the sample book, and now have the full text to do the remaining 1400 from volume 1. I'm going to try and do this quickly, learning many new characters each day and adding them to Anki as I go along. I hope to have the book completed by May 1st, which is just over 3 months.

To reach this goal, I'll need to do almost 470 characters a month, or about 16 a day. No problem! I'm going to start now with the next 16. I'll check back each Sunday to see how I'm progressing.
