More Disney

And my next movie to watch (Thursday), will be: Finding Nemo!

The title is: 海底总动员 . The meaning seems to be:

海底 - hǎi dǐ - Sea floor
总 - zǒng - General, assemble
动员 - dòng yuán - Mobilize

This is an odd translation (and maybe I'm missing something), but it sounds to me like "General mobilizes the sea floor" (perhaps to find Nemo?).

More to come after I watch it...

New Vocabulary, Dragon boat festival

Last night I re-watched Beauty and the Beast. In general it was easy to follow but I lost a lot of the specifics. Here a couple of words I picked up:

野兽 - yě shòu - Beast
攻击 - gōng jī - Attack!

This one is from my planets book:

太阳系 - tài yáng xì - solar system

And these ones are in because of the upcoming dragon boat festival tomorrow (courtesy of about.com):

Dragon Boat Festival: duān wǔ jié - 端午节
Dragon Boat: long zhōu - 龙舟
Rice Dumplings: zòng zǐ - 粽子
Qu Yuan: qū yuán - 屈原
Zhou Dynasty: chǔ guó - 楚国
Xiong Huang: xióng huáng jiǔ - 雄黄酒

I think some 粽子 are in order for dinner tomorrow!

Beauty and the Beast

The link I originally used in this post was actually a link to Beauty in the Beast in Cantonese. Not too useful for my studying... Anyway, here is the correct one, once again on Tudou.

I had a chance to watch this on Friday and like the other Disney dubs, it was really well done. I'm going to need to watch it again to try and pick out some vocab and understand the dialog a bit better.

What should my next Disney movie be?

Going to China! (and Taiwan)

We just booked our flights. Amy is coming for the full trip now - an entire month.

The flights are:

September 16th - Vancouver -> Beijing
October 11th - Shanghai -> Taipei
October 16th - Taipei -> Vancouver

Lots of stuff planned between Beijing and Shanghai. More to come on this in another post.

Now it's time to get my act together and get my Mandarin up to a level that won't get me lost on planet China.
